How to Quit Smoking Today Without Gaining Weight Tomorrow

There are so many of us out there that want to quit smoking, but we worry about gaining weight if we do. Anyone that has tried to quit knows that you usually end up eating or snacking more. Then we get aggravated because we've gained weight. Adding that to the many difficulties we face when trying to be smoke free often leads us to relapse.

I have found there are ways to quit smoking without putting on extra pounds, but first, I must say, we really need to put this in perspective. Many worry about those few extra pounds so much that they don't quit. So it's more important to our society to be the "ideal" weight" then it is to quit something that causes many health problems and illnesses including cancer? When you look at it that way, does it make any sense? Never the less, we still do it.

So, when trying to quit, stock up on healthy snacks. Then when you feel you need a snack to replace that cigarette, you'll have something good for you on hand. Granola bars, sugar free Popsicles, and fruit are all good choices.

Also, try exercising when you have a nicotine craving. For instance, you feel a craving coming on so you take a walk or use your treadmill. This not only is healthy, but it will keep you busy and release endorphins. So you will feel better without touching a cigarette or junk food.

Another thing I have found that really does help is deep breathing. When you have the urge to smoke, stop and breathe. Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and re-focus. Try not to think about smoking as something you need to do. Instead think of all the negatives of smoking; the health risks, the smell, the damage it does to your teeth. Most cravings only last for 3 minutes at the most. It's your conscious mind that makes it seem to last longer. When you take some deep breaths and get your mind on other things, you will find that you didn't want that cigarette after all. Again, you got through it with no suckers, candy, or snacks.

It is also very helpful to some to meditate when that "need" creeps up on us. This is just a more elaborate version of the deep breathing. Sit somewhere quiet, light some candles or incense, close your eyes, and take deep breaths. You may even try playing some relaxing music if it helps. Some also use yoga as a method of relaxing in place of meditating, but we are all different. So find what works for you and stick with it.

The basics of this are just to get your mind off the craving without using foods or snacks as a substitute. Relax, re-focus, and breathe. These are just a few suggestions that may help. Find whatever works to relax you and re-focus your thoughts. Then when you're smoke free, you will have done it without putting on one extra pound.

Now let me tell you a bit about my personal experiences. I used to
smoke in the past. I used to smoke for 20 years. When I thought
about these things what I've mentioned before, I decided to stop
smoking. I've tried several processes to stop, but they didn't
help. Of course, I stopped for a while, like 1 week or a bit more
but after that I lighted my cigarette again. You know I tried
almost everything to give up smoking. First I just put down the
cigarettes one night, but it wasn't good. I asked for help from
doctors, health care centers, etc. I've tried several brands of
nicotine patches. Until I found these tips what I want to share
with you in my book! Now, after 20 years smoking I can proudly say
I'm free! I'm not addicted of nicotine anymore! And yes, I feel
better. I save a lot of money, I'm not smelly anymore. I was afraid
about the fact that when I will be crowded with people who smoke
how will I survive? It was easy! And yeah, I feel the health
consequence of giving up smoking. I can do whatever sport
activities I want. I don't get tired as I got before. I can breath
easily and I don't become ill as much as it was used to before!

Habits, oh those nasty habits. Habits are developed from training, influences, observation, and practice. We develop many habits throughout our life, which some are good and others are bad. Good habits we can keep, but if one wants to improve their life the bad habits has to take a hike. Getting rid of bad habits however is not easy, especially if an addiction is involved. For this reason, we can take a few steps to learning how you can change your habits.

Making excuses:
People wander through life making excuses. Anytime a person sees something complicated, they will often make excuses why they cannot deal with the problem. "This is just the way I am." This is a common problem in the world, which we've all heard billions of times. If you are out to improve your life however, you need to say, "This is something that hinders me from achievement and I have the power to change it.

The first key to success is stop making excuses. Learn how to tell the truth. The truth is the only answer that leads you to improve your personal life. Once you learn to tell the truth, you will need to commit self to learning new behaviors and habits.

You can commit by choosing a new habit. Today I plan to drink more water. Some of us detest water, yet water is our way of living healthier. Instead of detesting something that will save your life, start saying, today I will drink more water. Even if you start out drinking a glass for the first couple of days, you are making changes.

Today I am going to stop judging others and myself. This is a common mistake people make in the world. They spend time judging others and themselves. This gets them nowhere but in a world of chaos. You make your bed, you must learn to sleep in it, which is why you should change your ways. Judging is only for our Master in the sky.

Do you think negative? I can't change this. My life is full of nonsense, I can't swing it anymore. Why me? Who put a tag on my head, saying persecute me. If you spend your life thinking negative and saying negative connotations, try changing your ways today. For instance, say, I can change something and I am going to. Instead of saying life is full of nonsense, accept it as truth yet move ahead to make your life better. Why me is a common question, which no one knows why, yet we have to accept it, make better decisions and move ahead. If you feel persecuted, ask you what you are doing that makes you feel this way. Do you have friends or family members weighing you down? If so, then kick their butt down the road and make new friends. No one in life is worth you suffering ongoing. You have the power to make changes, yet you do not have the power to change other people.

When you start to make changes to improve your life, start small. Instead of jumping the gun, take baby steps to success. Too many times people try to change overnight. This only leads to frustration.

When you are working to change your life and habits make sure you seek support and feedback. You do not have to walk the road to success alone. Feedback is found at your library, the Internet, at colleges, and so on. You will find support along these channels as well. Ask someone you trust to support you and give you feedback when needed also.
